I'm using FontLab Studio 5.0.4 on a Mac running OS X to make symbol fonts for our digital library project on alchemical manuscripts.

My fonts work on the Mac but they must also work on Windows XP/Vista. I have read through the manual and tried to follow the instructions to produce Win TrueType/OpenType TT files.  I copy those to my Win XP and try to install them directly but I always get "Font file may be damaged" or "Check Microsoft naming fields" messages.

I use the Microsoft Font Validator to try to correct the problems but to no avail.

Do I need to buy TransType to accomplish my goal or should I be able to use FontLab Studio to do this?

What should I do to get things to work?

Thanks,

Of course you can do it with Fontlab Studio.

Maybe it is a “Font info” problem (it is not very easy to do that, specially if you are newbie on that).

If you can’t achieve better results by any other way, you can send me your .vfb at henestro at hotmail dot com. Maybe I can solve it, and I would be happy to help you. I have a Mac and a PC with Windows XP.

Thanks Cristobal!  I'll send you the VFB. This is something I need to learn to do.

Oh my, I see you’re not a newbie at all! I’m impressed.

To the point: I don’t know how to fix it. I get the same error if the font is TTF, but if I generate it as OTF, the problem vanishes. This intrigues me and I will consult my font guru about that. If I get something, I’ll let you know.

Meanwhile, I’m sending to your mail:
—a picture from a PC with the OTF font working in the PC,
—a picture from the only Font Info pane I see an omission (but certainly it’s not for Truetype fonts),
—the OTF font.

Do you really need a TTF? For most purposes, OTF works fine for me on both platforms...

Anyone at this forum knows what is going on? The only difficulty is that the font is based in the PUA beggining at E000. Can it be related with the issue?
