Ascender/Descender Values

Hello,
Ascender/Descender Values:

Is it best to use the 'Auto' button in 'Key Dimensions'

for these values?
If I do, the resulting values ignore glyphs that are taller and lower values.
Clashing problems?

Or to enter them manually as the actual

tallest and lowest values?
