Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong in trying to get Studio 5 for Windows to recognize Python? (Running under XP SP2.)

I have installed Python 2.4.4 and the Windows extensions for Python 2.4. (I *previously* had 2.5, but completely uninstalled 2.5 and installed 2.4.4 instead.)

I have FontLab Studio 5.0.4 correctly installed.

I have rebooted my system, repaired my Python installation, started the Python GUI and command line - nothing I do can convince Studio 5 that Python is installed.

Where does FontLab look to see if and where Python 2.4 is installed?

Can anything be done to fix this? Apparently I'm not the only person with this problem....

I seem to have solved this through a two-step process, but I'm not sure if the first step was necessary:

1. I installed Python 2.3 in its default location. Studio 5 then found Python.

2. I then installed 2.4 into its default location (C:PYTHON24) and removed 2.3.

Is it possible that Studio 5 will ONLY see Python if Python is in its default location? Can't it look in the Windows Registry and find out where Python actually is?

Hi,

The registry is probably where the problem is since python 2.5 was
installed first then removed and an older version of python was
installed in its place.  Sometimes the registry doesn't get the message
until you hit it with the proverbial hammer.  I used to know how to do
this but that was some years ago and messing with the registry without
the proper knowledge will surely ruin your day if not your entire week.
I seem to remember 'regedit' or something like that in the command
prompt(aka- run) window. Yep, reedit it is but...........

'Yep, reedit it is but..........' Should read 'Yep, regedit it is
but...........'

A slight keyboard issue on my MacBook pro.
