Hello!
I am working on a font with lots of subpaths. When running checkOutlines on it I get the following feedback:

Code:
Checking A:  Too many supaths! Maximum number allowed is 64 Error: exception failure

(Which, by the way, has a typo in it.)
Can one disable this limit and, if so, what shall be edited?
Beside an obvious performance issue, which in my case isn't a critical matter, is there a reason for this limit?

Thanks for any input,
Best,
jb

Hello;

This report is not a problem for your font.

checkOutlines should limit this test to ideographic ( Postscript Type 1 LanguageGroup 1 ) glyphs which have counter hints.  For such glyphs, the counter hints won't get used in some Adobe rasterizers if the glyph has > 64 paths. For any  glyph which does not meet both these conditions, there is no specified limit for the number of allowed paths in a single glyph.

Best regards,

Thank you for your answer!
It seems, however, that any other test is skipped, including tiny subpaths and missing extremas. Sad

I will fix this problem in the next release of the FDK. That won't for some months, For the moment, I suggest enabling the test ( so you can also get the ones you want), and simply ignoring this error message, which is bogus. I really hope you aren't using checkOutlines to fix problems, without checking every single change. checkOutlines does a good job of overlap removal, but the percentage of fixes which you would approve of for other problems is a lot less than 100%. It can make mistakes even with overlap removal.
