Hey guys, I have just joined the forum.
I am trying to install adk on my vista system and my 'FinishInstallWindows' file will not paste to the command prompt window. Having done all the necesary tweeking to the properties of the command prompt windom settings I am not sure what to do now. I have also tried pasting the 'FinishInstallWindows' file into the 'run' window and pressed ok and nothing happened. I haven't yet rebooted but I don't think this is the problem. Any ideas?

Hi Robbie;

I don't understand why dragging the icon of 'FinishInstallWindows' file into the command prompt window doesn't work for you - maybe a Windows expert can make a suggestion. However, there are alternatives. The simplest is to just type the path to the file  - dragging the file, or pasting the path is just a convenience to get to the same result. The other is to do the work yourself that would otherwise be done by the script file, by adding '<path to FDK>\Tools\win' to the list of directories stored in the text string value of the PATH environment variable. To do this, open the System control panel, click on Advanced, click on Environment Variables, find the PATH variable and select it, click on 'Edit', and add the full path to the FDK/Tools/win directory. If the path has spaces, it needs double quotes around it. Add the FDK win directory path to teh end of the list, and don't forget the separator char that needs to go at the beginning of each dir path inteh PATH string.

I had the same problem. The workaround I used is to open a copy of the command prompt (Start Menu->Accessories->Command Prompt) by right-clicking on the start menu item described above and choosing "Run as administrator". Then you have to navigate to the FDK folder using the old Dos cd command and type the name of the FinishInstallWindows.cmd file which should work after all that.

Whenever I run the FDK program makeotf, I have to run it in a command prompt opened as administrator as above, or "permission denied" errors crop up.

Maybe there's a way to log into Windows as an administrator without having to do all this but I'm new to Vista.

Oh, and I did have to restart after running FinishWindowsInstall I think, so try that first -- maybe my problem isn't what's going on over there.
