I've been debugging a vertical metrics bug in some fonts of mine and wanted to confirm what I think the problem is.
The descender value in the hhea table is supposed to be negative for below the baseline, correct?
The example in the adobe reference shows it as positive value but makes no note explaining it.

Yes, hhea.descender is supposed to be negative. It's a typo in the spec.
(But OS/2.winDescent is really supposed to be positive.)
